More than 100 people attend our Age of Elegance concert

UPDATE: Eden Baroque performed a concert in the grounds of the stunning Scalesceugh Hall and Villas on August 12, to more than 100 delighted people. The duo - Katharine May on harpsichord and Michael Sanderson on baritone and baroque violin - are based near Great Salkeld, Penrith. They play period instruments to recreate popular songs and music from the 17th and 18th centuries, by the likes of Dowland, Handel, Bach, Purcell, Corelli and Scarlatti. This fits in perfectly with the concert setting. Scalesceugh Hall is an Edwardian country manor house which took shape from 1746. Further building work took place in 1913-14, but the hall had stood empty for several years and was rescued from dereliction by Dr Anita and Bruno Herdeiro two years ago. They have overseen a restoration project on the hall as well as building 13 eco-villas in the grounds. Parts of the hall itself will soon be converted into apartments. Anita and Bruno have been keen supporters of the Cumbrian arts scene since moving to the county. Recently Scalesceugh Hall featured as a venue on the Eden Valley Artistic Network (EVAN) Art Trail. Now it is staging ‘The Age Of Elegance’ concert, through the talents of Eden Baroque. Katharine May and Michael Sanderson made their “dream move” to the Eden Valley after building up successful careers over the past 20 years in Berkshire. Katharine is an experienced continuo player and her work has taken her across the UK, Ireland, Europe and Canada. Michael has directed many workshops with Thames Valley Baroque Orchestra, studying music from Bach to Vivaldi. As well as performing, they offer musical tuition in piano, harpsichord, singing, violin and theory. They also organise courses and workshops specialising in baroque chamber and vocal music.
